What can I expect during a therapy session? In therapy, you can expect a safe, non-judgmental, and confidential space where you can explore your emotions, challenges, and goals. Whether in individual therapy or relationship/couples therapy, your therapist will guide you in identifying patterns, understanding your feelings, and developing healthier coping strategies. Each session lasts about 53 minutes, and the process is collaborative, meaning your therapist will work with you to tailor the treatment to your specific needs. Our clinicians are trained to be culturally sensitive, ensuring that your Latinx, Hispanic, or LGBTQIA+ identity is acknowledged and integrated into the therapeutic process. You can expect to feel supported and heard while developing a personalized plan for growth.

How do I know if individual therapy or relationship/couples therapy is right for me?If you're dealing with personal challenges such as anxiety, depression, or trauma, individual therapy can help you gain insight into your thoughts and behaviors and provide tools to improve your mental well-being. On the other hand, relationship/couples therapy can help partners (whether in monogamous or consensually non-monogamous relationships) strengthen their emotional connection, improve communication, and resolve conflicts. Whether you're addressing issues like trust, intimacy, or navigating life transitions, therapy can provide a space to explore how you can grow both individually and together. Your therapist will help you determine which approach best supports your needs during the first session.
-
How can relationship/couples therapy help me and my partner(s)?Relationship/couples therapy is designed to help partners strengthen their emotional connection, improve communication, and resolve conflicts. It provides a safe, supportive space where you can work together on issues such as trust, communication, and intimacy, whether you're navigating monogamous or consensually non-monogamous relationships. Our clinicians use a variety of approaches to help partners foster deeper understanding and healthier relational dynamics. The goal is to create a nurturing environment where all types of relationships can thrive and grow, fostering mutual respect, understanding, and emotional connection.
-
How long do therapy sessions last, and how often should I attend? Each session lasts about 53 minutes, typically on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. This frequency helps build momentum in your therapeutic journey, whether you're working through personal challenges or improving your relationship dynamics. Your therapist will discuss with you the ideal session frequency based on your specific goals, the intensity of your challenges, and how you’re progressing. For individual therapy, weekly sessions are often a good start, while for relationship/couples therapy, the frequency may vary depending on the relationship’s needs. Together, we will determine a plan that works for you.
-
What insurance do you accept? We are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) and Aetna. If you have one of these plans, therapy services may be partially covered. We verify your benefits before your first appointment to ensure you understand what is covered. If your insurance is through a different provider and your plan includes out-of-network benefits, we can submit the claim as a courtesy on your behalf. If not, we can still assist by providing a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. This allows you to submit your therapy expenses directly to your insurance provider and request reimbursement based on your plan's out-of-network benefits.
-
What if I don’t have insurance or prefer not to use it?If you don’t have insurance or prefer not to use it, we offer a reduced-fee option to make therapy accessible to everyone. We want to work with you to find a solution that fits your needs. During your initial conversation, we will discuss private pay fees based on your specific circumstances. Our goal is to ensure that anyone seeking support can access therapy, no matter their financial situation.
-
How do I know if my insurance will cover therapy? Before your first appointment, we conduct a benefits verification to confirm whether your insurance will cover therapy services. For clients with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) or Aetna, we will verify the details of your coverage and keep you informed about what to expect. For clients with other insurance providers, we will provide a superbill after each session. You can submit the superbill to your insurance company for reimbursement if you have out-of-network benefits. We will make sure you understand the extent of your coverage and any potential costs.
-
What is a superbill, and how does it help with out-of-network reimbursement?A superbill is a detailed receipt that includes all the necessary information your insurance company needs to process a claim for reimbursement. If you have out-of-network benefits, we will provide you with a superbill after each session. You can then submit this receipt to your insurance company to potentially receive reimbursement for your therapy expenses. This allows you to use your out-of-network benefits to offset the cost of therapy services.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule an appointment? We understand that life happens, and sometimes you may need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. We ask that you provide at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or reschedules to avoid a cancellation fee. This policy allows us to manage our schedule effectively and offer time to clients who need it. If you miss an appointment or cancel without sufficient notice, a late cancellation fee will apply. We strive to be flexible and understanding, and we encourage clients to reach out as soon as possible if something unexpected comes up.

What is evidence-based therapy, and how does it help me?Evidence-based therapy refers to therapeutic methods that have been scientifically tested and proven effective for treating specific mental health concerns. At Reconnect Psychotherapy, we offer several evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Schema Therapy, and the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy. These approaches are backed by rigorous scientific research and have been shown to be effective for issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship problems. By using these techniques, we help you develop practical skills to improve your mental health and overall well-being.
-
What evidence-based treatment is best for me?The most appropriate evidence-based treatment for you will depend on your individual needs, goals, and the specific challenges you're facing. For example, if you're struggling with anxiety and negative thought patterns, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) might be a great fit, as it focuses on changing unhealthy thinking patterns. If you've experienced trauma, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) or EMDR could help you process and reduce the emotional impact of traumatic memories. If you're dealing with relationship issues, the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy is a research-based approach that helps partners improve communication and intimacy. Your therapist will collaborate with you during the initial sessions to determine which treatment is best for your personal growth and healing.

How effective is evidence-based therapy via telehealth?Research has shown that telehealth (online therapy) can be just as effective as in-person therapy for treating a variety of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship problems. Studies have demonstrated that evidence-based treatments, such as CBT, DBT, and ACT, are highly effective when delivered through secure telehealth platforms. Online therapy has been shown to help reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, improve emotional regulation, and foster a strong therapeutic alliance between the client and clinician. The telehealth platform we use, Simple Practice, is HIPAA-compliant, ensuring your sessions remain private and secure. Whether you're attending therapy from home or another private space, you can expect the same level of care and effectiveness as you would in an in-person session.
-
Is remote psychological testing as effective as in-person testing?Yes, remote psychological testing is just as effective and reliable as in-person testing when conducted through a secure, standardized platform. Numerous studies have confirmed that psychological assessments, such as cognitive testing, personality assessments, and clinical evaluations, produce equivalent results whether conducted remotely or in person. The testing platform we use is also HIPAA-compliant, ensuring that your privacy is protected. Remote psychological testing is especially beneficial for individuals who may face barriers to attending in-person appointments, such as those with physical disabilities, time constraints, or those living in remote locations. Our clinicians follow the same rigorous protocols for remote testing to ensure accuracy and validity.
-
What if I prefer in-person services instead of virtual sessions? While we currently offer services only virtually, we understand that some people may prefer in-person sessions. If you feel that in-person services are important for your treatment, we can refer you to other professionals in your area who offer in-person services. However, we want to assure you that our virtual services are effective, confidential, and designed to provide the same high level of care and support as in-person sessions. Many of the individuals we work with find that online services offer greater convenience and flexibility, and research supports their effectiveness for a wide range of concerns.
-
How do you ensure therapy is culturally sensitive and relevant to my experiences as a Latinx/Hispanic or LGBTQIA+ individual? Our clinicians are trained in providing culturally sensitive therapy and have extensive experience working with individuals from Latinx/Hispanic and LGBTQIA+ communities. Many of our therapists also share these identities, which helps us better understand the unique challenges faced by our clients. We prioritize creating a therapeutic environment that acknowledges your cultural, familial, and relational experiences, so that you feel understood and supported. Whether you're navigating the complexities of cultural expectations, identity exploration, or the intersections of gender identity and sexual orientation, our therapists ensure that the therapeutic process is respectful, empowering, and affirming of who you are.
-
What if I have religious or spiritual beliefs that I want to explore or address in therapy? We honor and deeply respect your religious and spiritual beliefs as integral parts of your identity and healing process. We approach spirituality with cultural sensitivity, ensuring that therapy aligns with and respects your values, beliefs, and religious practices. Whether you're navigating spiritual growth, healing from religious trauma, or redefining your faith, our therapists will work with you to support your emotional, spiritual, and personal well-being. We integrate your beliefs into the therapy process to help you achieve healing and growth.
-
Do you integrate other forms of cultural or community healing in therapy?Yes, we recognize that healing and wellness are deeply influenced by cultural practices and community traditions. Our therapists are open to integrating culturally significant forms of healing, including spiritual practices, family rituals, and community-based approaches, as part of the therapeutic process. Whether it's healing through art, traditional rituals, or community support, we collaborate with clients to incorporate these practices in a way that complements and enhances the therapy process. We believe in honoring cultural healing methods while providing evidence-based care that aligns with your values and needs.
-
What guidelines or ethical standards does Reconnect Psychotherapy follow to ensure cultural sensitivity and respect in its services? At Reconnect Psychotherapy, our practice follows the ethical guidelines established by the American Psychological Association (APA), which emphasize cultural competence, respect, and inclusivity. We are committed to ongoing professional development to ensure that our clinical team understands and applies the latest best practices in cultural sensitivity, intersectionality, and identity-affirming care.
